| WHEREAS, The Volar Center for Independent Living in El Paso | ||
| has been named the 2011 Center for Independent Living of the Year by | ||
| the State of Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Established in 1981 by the Texas Rehabilitation | ||
| Commission and EPOCH, the Volar Center for Independent Living is a | ||
| private nonprofit corporation led by and for individuals with | ||
| disabilities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The organization is dedicated to advocating human | ||
| and civil rights, bolstering opportunities in the community, and | ||
| empowering men and women with special needs to control and direct | ||
| their own lives; in an effort to meet these worthwhile goals, Volar | ||
| offers information, referral, and transportation services, | ||
| independent living skills training, and peer counseling; in | ||
| addition, the center hosts a Home By Choice program to assist men | ||
| and women as they transition out of nursing facilities and a lending | ||
| closet to supply medical equipment to people in need; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For 30 years, the Volar Center for Independent | ||
| Living has helped to enhance the lives of many West Texans, and all | ||
| those associated with this notable enterprise may take great pride | ||
| in their contributions; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Volar | ||
| Center for Independent Living on being named the 2011 Center for | ||
| Independent Living of the Year by the State of Texas and extend to | ||
| its management and staff sincere best wishes for continued success | ||
| with their important work; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
