R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Southeast Dallas Business and Professional
  Women's Senior and Youth Clubs honored Dr. Melanie Belt on March
  16, 2013, for her achievements in the field of medicine; and
         WHEREAS, An affiliate of the National Association of Negro
  Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., the local
  organization each year celebrates Women's History Month with a
  special program; the 2013 event recognized the work of four
  outstanding women from the Dallas area who are excelling in the
  fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), areas
  in which women are often underrepresented; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of James and Mollie Belt, Melanie Belt
  was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Kimball High School
  and earned her bachelor's degree in biology from Xavier University
  of Louisiana; she went on to attend The University of Texas Medical
  School at Houston and completed her residency in obstetrics and
  gynecology at Texas Tech University; in 2007, she joined the staff
  of the Austin Regional Clinic, and today she serves as the managing
  partner of the clinic's South Austin office, overseeing the work of
  7 physicians and 30 employees; and
         WHEREAS, Through her years of hard work and dedicated study,
  Melanie Belt has set an inspiring example for young African
  American women who hope to pursue a career in STEM-related fields,
  and she is indeed deserving of this notable honor; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Melanie Belt on her selection
  as a Women's History Month honoree of the Southeast Dallas Business
  and Professional Women's Senior and Youth Clubs and commend her for
  her outstanding career in medicine; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Belt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
