WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories | ||
of William Stafford Borden, Jr., of Houston, who passed away on | ||
August 23, 2012, at the age of 65; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Bill Borden was born on | ||
November 3, 1946; with a lifelong interest in civic affairs and | ||
community service that began when he was a young man, he served as | ||
president of the Young Republican Federation Chapter at the | ||
University of Houston from 1966 to 1969; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Borden started his professional career with | ||
Borden Brothers Realty while still in college; he later held the | ||
post of vice president of real estate development for the North | ||
Shore Oaks Corporation before opening his own real estate | ||
brokerage, appraisal, and consulting business in 1977; and | ||
WHEREAS, While successfully pursuing his profession, | ||
Mr. Borden remained engaged in politics; he was a Republican | ||
precinct chair from 1969 to 2008, and he was a member of the State | ||
Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Texas from 1982 to | ||
1992; during the 2000 presidential election, he was a delegate to | ||
the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, and in 2004 he | ||
served as one of 34 presidential electors representing the State of | ||
Texas; in honor of his many contributions, he was named Volunteer of | ||
the Year by the state Republican Party in 1999; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Borden played a prominent role in numerous | ||
charitable and community organizations as well; he was involved in | ||
the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon in Bellaire throughout the | ||
1980s, and he served as the president of the Bellaire Unit of the | ||
American Heart Association, the Bellaire Historical Society, and | ||
the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce, which awarded | ||
him an honorary life membership in 2002; his efforts were also | ||
recognized with a number of other accolades, including a public | ||
service award for his volunteer work with the Houston Independent | ||
School District in 1977, the Outstanding Young Man of America award | ||
for 1980 and 1981 from the United States Junior Chamber Jaycees, and | ||
the Mr. Bellaire Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award in 1991; he | ||
also received the Houston Fire Department Life Saving Heroism Award | ||
in 1978; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Borden enjoyed the | ||
support of his wife, Nancy; he took great pride in his son, Robert | ||
Barclift Borden, and he loved nothing more than watching his | ||
grandson, Robert, play baseball and his granddaughter, Sara, | ||
perform dance routines; and | ||
WHEREAS, William Borden led a life that was rich in personal | ||
and professional achievements, and his strength of character and | ||
his positive, encouraging attitude will be deeply missed by all | ||
those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of William Stafford | ||
Borden, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his | ||
family: to his wife, Nancy; to his son, Robert Barclift Borden II, | ||
and his wife, Heidi Sue; to his grandchildren, Robert Barclift | ||
Borden III and Sara Lori Janelle Borden; and to his other relatives | ||
and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William | ||
Borden. | ||
