| WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the | ||
| passing of Welborn Boyd Harris Jr. of Lubbock on January 2, 2021, at | ||
| the age of 93; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Welborn B. Harris Sr. and Callie Lee | ||
| Cissel Harris, "Dub" Harris was born on December 8, 1927, in | ||
| Morganfield, Kentucky, and he grew up with the companionship of two | ||
| sisters, Callie and Florence; after graduating from Union County | ||
| High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force; a staff sergeant, he | ||
| served as a meteorologist with the postwar U.S. occupation forces | ||
| in Japan, and he was discharged in 1948; later, he moved to Lubbock | ||
| and earned his degree in business administration at Texas Tech | ||
| University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Harris remained in Texas and worked in real | ||
| estate until 1957, when he accepted a position with a subsidiary of | ||
| the Westinghouse Corporation that transferred him to several | ||
| locations throughout the U.S.; he returned to Lubbock in 1964 as the | ||
| dealer principal at Hub Motor Company, and he was subsequently | ||
| employed by Lubbock Methodist Hospital as vice president of | ||
| development; in 1972, he became the first development officer for | ||
| the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and he later | ||
| became a licensed real estate appraiser, ultimately retiring at the | ||
| age of 86; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Harris taught Sunday school | ||
| at First United Methodist Church of Lubbock, and he was a charter | ||
| member of St. Luke's Lubbock, which he helped organize; in | ||
| addition, he was a former president of the Lubbock Country Club, and | ||
| he was a member of the Greater Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club and the | ||
| Texas Tech Alumni Association; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Harris enjoyed the love | ||
| and support of his wife, Denece, with whom he shared a rewarding | ||
| marriage of more than seven decades; he was the devoted father of | ||
| two daughters, Kitty and Linn, and he took great pride in his four | ||
| grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Although Dub Harris will be deeply missed, he has | ||
| left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will | ||
| forever treasure; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Welborn Boyd | ||
| Harris Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dub Harris. | ||
