R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life dedicated to serving
  others drew to a close with the passing of Bettye J. Glover of Cedar
  Park on July 3, 2017, at the age of 80; and
         WHEREAS, The former Bettye Jarrell was born in Wink on
  February 18, 1937, to Jerry and Carolyn Jarrell; in 1955, she
  graduated as valedictorian of Winters High School, and that same
  year, she wed William Sanders Glover Jr.; the couple shared a
  rewarding marriage that spanned 13 years, until Mr. Glover's death
  in 1968; and
         WHEREAS, After her husband's passing, Mrs. Glover moved to
  Austin and earned her real estate agent's and broker's licenses, and
  she went on to run B and G Properties with her longtime friend,
  Ginny Bronson; above all else, she devoted herself to raising her
  four children, Sandra, Angela, Jerry, and Curt; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Glover was a loving and supportive parent, but
  she also knew how to keep her charges in line; on weekends, she
  asked the children only once to do their chores, and if that didn't
  work, she played Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass at top volume,
  rousing them to their labors with the band's breezy Latin hits
  cranked up to 11; she encouraged and often participated in their
  pastimes and pursuits, from riding motorcycles and "mudding" to
  various entrepreneurial endeavors, and she was always ready to lend
  a hand with her grandchildren and her great-grandson, picking them
  up from school, attending their activities, and helping them with
  their homework; and
         WHEREAS, A talented cook, Mrs. Glover maintained a vast
  collection of cookbooks and spent many happy hours baking and
  preparing meals for friends and loved ones; she took great delight
  in nurturing her six beloved cats and feeding other animals in need
  of a meal; her hobbies included gardening, reading mystery novels,
  and collecting antiques, and she was the acknowledged queen of the
  flea markets, maintaining a booth at the City-Wide Garage Sale in
  Austin and at Wimberley Market Days; an avid fan of the Texas
  Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys, she also loved the movies, and
  throughout her life she remained steadfast in her conviction that
  Sean Connery was the only real James Bond; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Glover was a member by proxy of the Texas
  legislative community; her son Curt has worked for the Texas
  Legislative Council for more than 32 years, and her son Jerry worked
  for the council for 20 years until his retirement; following in the
  family tradition, her grandson Joe has worked for the council for
  four years; and
         WHEREAS, A loving mother and grandmother and a true and loyal
  friend, Bettye Glover did everything she could for those she loved
  and never asked for credit, earning their lasting respect and
  admiration for her warmth, humility, and strength of character;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Bettye J. Glover and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of
  her family: to her sister, Gwendelyn Bridge; to her children,
  Sandra Glover Byler, Angela Gay Smith, Jerry Alan Glover and his
  wife, Leony, and William Curt Glover and his wife, Linda; to her
  grandchildren, Dustin and Valerie Smith, Cameron Smith, Logan and
  Carly Campbell, Alaine Tremain, Lynell Glover, and Joe and Jacob
  Glover; to her great-grandson, Aiden Tremain; and to her other
  relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bettye
  Glover.
