R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The annual Freedom Fest takes place each year in Rio
  Grande City; and
         WHEREAS, This fun, family-oriented celebration features a
  carnival, live entertainment, and a barbecue cook-off; proceeds
  from Freedom Fest benefit the Rio Grande City Boys & Girls Youth
  Club, an organization dedicated to helping youngsters reach their
  full potential by sponsoring such activities as a summer program
  and swimming classes; and
         WHEREAS, An International Barbeque Cookers Association
  sanctioned state championship event, the cook-off offers highly
  skilled teams a chance to put their culinary talents to the test as
  they vie to produce the tastiest entries in several different
  categories; the occasion combines thrilling competition and good
  eating, with cash and other prizes being awarded to the top
  finishers in each category; and
         WHEREAS, Performers featured at this noteworthy festival
  include country music stars and popular Tejano groups, and the
  benefit is capped off by a fireworks display; and
         WHEREAS, While supporting an important cause, Freedom Fest
  provides a welcome opportunity for local residents to listen to
  music, share the company of family and friends, and celebrate our
  nation's liberty; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the Rio Grande City Freedom Fest and
  extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a
  memorable and enjoyable occasion.
