| WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
| death of Miriam Simmons of Waco on March 21, 2011, at the age of 98; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, "Snooks" Simmons was joined in marriage with Edward | ||
| Simmons, who served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air | ||
| Corps; the couple had a son, Edward, and shared a rewarding | ||
| relationship until Lieutenant Simmons was killed in action in the | ||
| Philippines during World War II; and | ||
| WHEREAS, After moving to Waco in 1963, Mrs. Simmons was | ||
| employed with the Veterans Administration for many years; she | ||
| delighted in the small-town feel of her adopted hometown and was an | ||
| avid bridge player; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Although Snooks Simmons will be deeply missed, | ||
| cherished memories of time spent in her company will long endure in | ||
| the hearts of her family and friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Miriam Simmons and | ||
| extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her son, | ||
| Edward Simmons, and his wife, Karen; to her aunt, Georgia Breeden; | ||
| to her cousins, Glenn Breeden and Carol Leaverton; to her longtime | ||
| friends, Annette Brister, Betty Smith, Gail Thomas, and Tammie | ||
| Stripling; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Miriam | ||
| Simmons. | ||
