R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Lucy Dean Record of Lockney was recognized for her
  many achievements as a musician and teacher by the Floyd County
  Commissioners Court on June 12, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1924, the former Lucy Dean Rose began
  studying piano at the age of four, and just three years later, she
  was performing as an organist at First United Methodist Church in
  Lockney, where she continues to play to this day; she went on to
  attend Texas Tech University and then the Draughon School of
  Business, and she later earned a teaching certificate from the
  St. Louis Institute of Music; and
         WHEREAS, This admired musician married the love of her life,
  Charles L. Record, in 1942, and they shared nearly half a century
  together before his passing in 1991; she answered her nation's call
  to duty during World War II, serving as a secretary in the U.S. Army
  Air Corps on bases in Kansas, Louisiana, and Texas; and
         WHEREAS, After returning to Lockney in 1946, Mrs. Record
  began working as a full-time piano teacher, with as many as 90
  pupils a week, and she still enjoys sharing her expertise with her
  students today; over the years, she has also performed in a number
  of bands, including Jimmy Burson and Texas in the Swing, Denim and
  Lace II, Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition, and Floyd Domino's
  All-Stars; a virtuoso of the Texas western swing style, she is
  particularly known for her signature rendition of the American
  standard "It Had to Be You"; and
         WHEREAS, The recipient of a host of prestigious honors,
  Mrs. Record was presented with the Will Rogers Award in the
  instrumentalist category at the Academy of Western Artists Awards
  in 2013; moreover, she was named a Hero in the Cowtown Guild in 2012
  and inducted into the Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest
  Hall of Fame in 2011; and
         WHEREAS, For more than seven decades, Lucy Dean Record has
  delighted audiences across the Lone Star State and instilled a love
  of music in generations of students, and it is indeed a pleasure to
  join in honoring her for her many contributions to the rich musical
  heritage of Texas; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Lucy Dean
  Record on her inspiring work as a musician and teacher and extend to
  her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Record as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
