| WHEREAS, The National Association of Town Watch sponsors a | ||
| well-known nationwide program entitled National Night Out Against | ||
| Crime; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This notable annual event provides an opportunity | ||
| for Texans to join forces with individuals in thousands of other | ||
| towns and cities across the country to promote cooperative crime | ||
| prevention efforts; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Commemorated through neighborhood gatherings, | ||
| cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, and other activities, | ||
| National Night Out helps to build community cohesiveness, | ||
| strengthen relations between residents and local police, and | ||
| increase awareness of anticrime strategies, while sending a message | ||
| of solidarity to would-be criminals; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The importance of reducing crime, drug use, and | ||
| violence cannot be overstated, and by taking part in National Night | ||
| Out observances, Texans affirm their commitment to making their | ||
| communities stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby recognize the 2016 National Night Out Against | ||
| Crime as an essential crime prevention event and commend all those | ||
| involved in this vital endeavor. | ||
