| WHEREAS, Dr. Matilda Delgado Saenz, district director in the | ||
| office of State Representative Abel Herrero from December 2012 to | ||
| June 2017, has rendered outstanding service to her fellow Texans; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the course of three legislative sessions, | ||
| Dr. Saenz carried out the functions of her post with exceptional | ||
| resourcefulness, initiative, and expertise, earning the | ||
| appreciation of both her colleagues and the constituents of | ||
| District 34; her myriad duties included scheduling the | ||
| representative's public appearances in the district, drafting | ||
| member resolutions and letters of recommendation and support for | ||
| local individuals and organizations, helping constituents resolve | ||
| issues with state agencies, mentoring and training legislative | ||
| interns, and representing the office at media events and | ||
| fund-raisers; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Saenz holds a bachelor's degree in secondary | ||
| education from Incarnate Word College, a master's degree in English | ||
| from Texas A&I University, and a doctorate in English from Texas | ||
| Woman's University; she has worked as a secondary school teacher in | ||
| San Antonio, El Paso, and Corpus Christi, and she has taught at the | ||
| postsecondary level at the University of North Texas, North Lake | ||
| College, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville; she has also served | ||
| as the dean of language and literature at Eastfield College, as | ||
| provost and vice president of instruction at Mountain View College, | ||
| and as an educational consultant for Coastal Bend College; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Engaged in a number of worthy causes over the years, | ||
| Dr. Saenz currently serves as secretary of the Corpus Christi area | ||
| chapter of the League of Women Voters; she is a life member of the | ||
| Jesuit Women's Auxiliary of Dallas and a former member of the board | ||
| of Literacy Instruction for Texas, whose mission is to promote | ||
| adult literacy in Dallas County; and | ||
| WHEREAS, During her years with Representative Herrero's | ||
| office, this esteemed Texan has exemplified the highest standards | ||
| of public service, and she is indeed deserving of special | ||
| recognition for her fine work; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Matilda | ||
| Delgado Saenz for her service as district director in the office of | ||
| State Representative Abel Herrero and extend to her sincere best | ||
| wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Dr. Saenz as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
