WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their | ||
memories of Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry of San Benito, who passed | ||
away on April 21, 2023, at the age of 91; and | ||
WHEREAS, The daughter of Emeterio and Eva Arellano, Celia | ||
Arellano Gentry was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico on March 3, | ||
1932; she lived a fulfilling and joyous childhood alongside her | ||
siblings; Ernestine, Antonia, Emeterio, Aurora and Rosemary. | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Gentry graduated in 1952 from San Benito High | ||
School where she was a member of the San Benito Band. She attended | ||
Texas Womans University and graduated with a Bachelor degree in | ||
Education. In 1979 she attended Pan American University and | ||
graduated with a Masters Degree in Special Education and in 1986 | ||
received her Doctorate in Child Psychology from Texas Womans | ||
University. | ||
WHEREAS, Her teaching career started in 1954 in Palacios | ||
CISD. She taught in Harlingen CISD and San Benito CISD for more than | ||
25 years. Dr. Gentry retired from Fort Worth CISD in 1999. After her | ||
retirement, Dr. Gentry continued working for Weslaco CISD where she | ||
taught special education classes and children who were very ill and | ||
home bound. For over a decade, Dr. Gentry worked with numerous | ||
children who needed individualized tutoring, especially children | ||
that were impacted during Covid. Her teaching career spanned over | ||
68 years and touched the lives of over 2,000 children | ||
WHEREAS, She took great pride in her three children, Leslie, | ||
Bobby, and Yvonne; with the passage of time, her treasured family | ||
grew to include six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry lived a life that was rich | ||
in personal and professional achievements, and she will forever be | ||
a source of inspiration to those she leaves behind; now, therefore, | ||
be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
of Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry and extend heartfelt sympathy to the | ||
members of her family: to her children, Leslie Whittemore, Bobby | ||
Gentry and Yvonne Guerra; to her grandchildren, Christina Baker, | ||
Katherine Whittaker, Bobby Gentry Jr., Westin Gentry, Taite Gentry, | ||
and Elizabeth Carrillo; and to her other relatives and many | ||
friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Celia | ||
Arellano Gentry. | ||
