R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Jesus G. Saenz of Benavides passed away on January
  8, 2016, at the age of 77, bringing a great loss to his family and
  many friends; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Reynaldo and Eluteria Saenz, "Chick"
  Saenz was born in Benavides on July 2, 1938; he graduated from
  Benavides High School and went on to serve his country in the United
  States Marine Corps for three years; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Saenz managed cattle ranches before embarking
  on a four-decade career in law enforcement as a constable in the
  Duval County Sheriff's Office; in 1972, he went to work for the
  United States Department of Agriculture, and the following year, he
  joined the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association as the
  first Hispanic member of its special rangers; commissioned through
  the Texas Department of Public Safety and certified by Texas A&M
  University--Kingsville, he investigated a wide range of crimes,
  including cattle rustling, theft, poaching, and agricultural
  fraud; and
         WHEREAS, Responsible for a six-county territory that
  included the Mexican border between Laredo and Brownsville,
  Mr. Saenz coordinated closely with a number of agencies on either
  side of the Rio Grande to prevent the transport of stolen cattle; he
  also taught livestock law and technology classes, and he helped
  train officers across South Texas as a certified marksmanship
  instructor; and
         WHEREAS, Helpful, friendly, and outgoing, Mr. Saenz endeared
  himself to innumerable people; he especially enjoyed listening to
  music, barbecuing for his treasured family, and spending time with
  his faithful canine companion, Benji; and
         WHEREAS, Chick Saenz lived a caring and purposeful life, and
  he will be remembered with great admiration and affection by all who
  were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jesus G. "Chick"
  Saenz and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
  his wife, Tina G. Saenz; to his son, David Saenz; to his daughter,
  Delinda Garza, and her husband, Luis; to his stepsons, Carlos
  Gonzales and his wife, Alma, and Danny Gonzalez and his wife, Alma;
  to his stepdaughter, Gloria Garcia, and her husband, David; to his
  grandchildren, Louis Garza and his wife, Andrea, Orlando, Lauren,
  and Lottie Garza, and Derrick and Demira Saenz; to his sister, Maria
  Elena Brock; to his eight great-grandchildren; and to his other
  relatives and friends.
