	H.R. No. 1213



	R E S O L U T I O N

	WHEREAS, Alejandrina Guzman was named student body president
	of The University of Texas at Austin on March 9, 2017; and
	WHEREAS, Ms. Guzman has made history as both the first Latina
	and the first person with a physical disability to become student
	body president at UT; capturing 54 percent of the vote in a
	campus-wide runoff election, she and her running mate, Micky Wolf,
	campaigned on a platform that focused on six key points: fostering a
	more diverse and inclusive environment, improving accessibility
	for students with disabilities, addressing sexual assault on and
	around campus, lowering costs for UT students, promoting community
	service, and reviving the Texas vs. Texas A&M football game; and
	WHEREAS, A fourth-year government and Mexican American
	studies major, Ms. Guzman also participates in Orange Jackets, the
	Hispanic Student Association, the League of United Latin American
	Citizens, and the Friar Society; moreover, she has served as
	director of the Disabilities and Inclusion Agency for Student
	Government and of Latino Community Affairs at the Multicultural
	Engagement Center; and
	WHEREAS, Alejandrina Guzman is an inspiring leader with an
	exceptional ability to motivate and encourage others, and the
	positivity and determination that she demonstrated during the
	election will continue to serve her well as she takes on her new
	role; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
	Legislature hereby congratulate Alejandrina Guzman on being
	elected president of The University of Texas at Austin student body
	and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
	it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
	prepared for Ms. Guzman as an expression of high regard by the Texas
	House of Representatives.
