| WHEREAS, The life of Fred Lee Frazier, Sr., of Terrell, is a | ||
| source of enduring inspiration for all who have the good fortune to | ||
| know this esteemed centenarian; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Monroe and Betty Frazier, Fred Frazier | ||
| was born near Terrell on May 10, 1910; one of eight children raised | ||
| in a farming family, he grew up working the fields and taught | ||
| himself how to read and write; it was while picking cotton that | ||
| Mr. Frazier met his future wife, Mamie, and they were married a year | ||
| later, in 1933; the couple raised five children and lived happily | ||
| together for nearly seven decades, until Mrs. Frazier's passing in | ||
| 2001; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Frazier entered the army in 1942 and served in | ||
| Alexandria, Louisiana, where he was trained in the medical corps; | ||
| following his discharge in 1945, he returned to farming before | ||
| going to work for Mr. and Mrs. James T. Bowers of Dallas; he managed | ||
| their busy household while their six children were small and became | ||
| a beloved member of the family, ultimately serving for more than 40 | ||
| years before his retirement; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A longtime congregant of Bethlehem Baptist Church, | ||
| Mr. Frazier served as a deacon and as president of the usher board; | ||
| in his retirement, he has helped maintain the church as well as | ||
| homes and yards in the surrounding neighborhood; today, when he is | ||
| not helping others, he works in his own yard and enjoys relaxing in | ||
| his front porch swing; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This remarkable Texan has a great treasure trove of | ||
| stories, and by sharing his wonderfully detailed memories of times | ||
| gone by, he has opened windows to the past for younger generations; | ||
| his wisdom and experience have enriched the lives of countless | ||
| people, and he continues to be a shining example of kindness, | ||
| thoughtfulness, and devotion; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby celebrate the life of 102-year-old Fred Lee | ||
| Frazier, Sr., and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued | ||
| happiness; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. Frazier as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
