WHEREAS, Cathedral High School in El Paso is celebrating its | ||
85th anniversary with a gala on May 7, 2011; and | ||
WHEREAS, The only Catholic, all-boys high school in the city, | ||
Cathedral High School was founded by the De La Salle Christian | ||
Brothers in 1925; the school offers its students a faith-based | ||
education that prepares them to succeed in college and the world at | ||
large; more than 5,000 young men have graduated from Cathedral | ||
since it opened its doors, and many of the school's alumni have gone | ||
on to become leaders in the community and in their professions; and | ||
WHEREAS, Guided by its mission "to teach minds and touch | ||
hearts," Cathedral High School provides its students with a | ||
first-rate academic curriculum, combined with moral and spiritual | ||
instruction grounded in Catholic teachings; in 2006 the school | ||
launched the Center for Advanced Studies, which enables students to | ||
take college-level classes on campus and earn up to 30 college | ||
credits before graduating; Cathedral students also enjoy | ||
opportunities to participate in sports and other extracurricular | ||
activities, and each year they volunteer their time in the | ||
community; and | ||
WHEREAS, "La Cate," as the school is affectionately known, | ||
draws students from Juarez as well as El Paso, and the fellowship | ||
that they experience has helped to foster understanding and | ||
cooperation between the border cities; and | ||
WHEREAS, For 85 years, Cathedral High School has contributed | ||
to the academic and spiritual growth of its students, producing | ||
young men of conscience and compassion, and the tradition of | ||
excellence it has established is truly worthy of recognition; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commemorate the 85th anniversary of Cathedral | ||
High School and extend to all those associated with the school | ||
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Cathedral High School as an expression of high regard | ||
by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
