R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Los Barrios de Amarillo is celebrating its 50th
  anniversary in 2021, and this is a fitting opportunity to pay
  tribute to the vital work of this exemplary nonprofit; and
         WHEREAS, In 1971, Los Barrios de Amarillo was established by
  a small group of community leaders and area volunteers to address
  the high school dropout rate; today, under the auspices of the
  Amarillo Wesley Community Center, the organization seeks to promote
  higher education opportunities, leadership training, career
  awareness, and professional development for students across the
  Texas Panhandle; and
         WHEREAS, The centerpiece of the organization's mission is its
  scholarship program, which helps students pursue their dreams
  through education at area institutions of higher learning,
  including Amarillo College, Clarendon College, Eastern New Mexico
  University, Frank Phillips College, Texas Tech University, and West
  Texas A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, The organization also hosts speakers at its monthly
  virtual brunch meetings, and its Step Up to Success career
  conferences are open to middle school and high school students in
  the spring and fall, respectively; the Step Up 2.0 program is open
  to high school juniors and seniors in Potter and Randall Counties,
  and it offers job-shadowing immersion visits in four areas,
  engineering, finance and banking, marketing, and aerospace and
  manufacturing; and
         WHEREAS, Los Barrios de Amarillo benefits from the capable
  leadership of its board of directors, including president Mary
  Bralley, vice president Jennifer Gallardo, treasurer Tina
  Sisneros, secretary Jerry Branch, and historian Katy Perish; and
         WHEREAS, Over the past half century, Los Barrios de Amarillo
  has helped to inspire and empower countless young people, providing
  them with the tools they need to succeed and prosper; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 50th
  anniversary of Los Barrios de Amarillo and extend to all those
  associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued
  success in their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Los Barrios de Amarillo as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
