| WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to | ||
| a close when Felix Derwyn Cook of Houston passed away on February | ||
| 21, 2011, at the age of 59; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born on March 7, 1951, to Felix Lopez Cook and Opal | ||
| Augusta Ross Cook, Mr. Cook attended public school in the Bayou City | ||
| and graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School; he received a | ||
| bachelor of business administration degree in management from Texas | ||
| A&M University--Kingsville; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the course of his 27-year career with | ||
| Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Felix Cook set a standard of | ||
| excellence in the workplace, forged many friendships with his | ||
| colleagues, and took pride in his role as systems administrator for | ||
| the creation of the E-911 database because of its potential to save | ||
| lives; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Cook's strong faith sustained him through the | ||
| years, beginning with his childhood affiliation with Trinity | ||
| Gardens First Baptist Church; kind and caring, this generous | ||
| individual actively supported charities such as Bread of Life, | ||
| which he led as president; he also served as president of the | ||
| Houston Chapter of NETWORK; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of | ||
| one man's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable mark on | ||
| the world as they move through it, and Felix Cook was indeed one | ||
| such person; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Felix Derwyn Cook | ||
| and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his | ||
| wife of 36 years, Jeri Lyn Cook; to his daughter, Cassye DomiNique | ||
| Cook; to his stepdaughter, Shannon Dione Grigsby; to his father, | ||
| Felix Cook; to his mother-in-law, Winnie Mauryne Grigsby; to his | ||
| step-grandson, Nicolas Spenser Grigsby; to his brother, Dwayne | ||
| Butler Cook; to his sister, Alecia Davis; and to his other relatives | ||
| and many friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Felix Cook. | ||
