WHEREAS, The Arlington Police Department pays tribute to its | ||
fallen officers each May during National Police Week with a solemn | ||
ceremony at Heroes Park; and | ||
WHEREAS, First dedicated on May 17, 2008, Heroes Park is | ||
situated near the APD's West Station and the city's Fire Training | ||
Center, and it features a tree-lined walkway, a fountain and | ||
memorial pool, and the Wall of Honor, which bears the names of those | ||
officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty; and | ||
WHEREAS, Since 1930, eight police officers have made the | ||
ultimate sacrifice while serving the city; these include James E. | ||
Johnson, Gary D. Harl, Terry Lynn Lewis, Jerry J. Crocker, Craig | ||
Michael Hanking, Joseph Thomas Cushman, Craig Gordon Story, and | ||
Jillian Michelle Smith; and | ||
WHEREAS, Texans owe an immense debt of gratitude to the men | ||
and women of law enforcement who willingly place themselves in | ||
harm's way to protect and serve the public, and the Arlington Police | ||
Department's annual tribute to its fallen heroes is a fitting | ||
remembrance of their sacrifice and devotion to duty; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the Arlington | ||
Police Department's annual fallen officers memorial ceremony and | ||
extend to the members of the department sincere best wishes for a | ||
meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the Arlington Police Department as an expression of | ||
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
