| WHEREAS, Citizens of Cockrell Hill are coming together to | ||
| take part in the annual National Night Out on October 1, 2013; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Introduced in 1984, National Night Out is sponsored | ||
| by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization | ||
| dedicated to the development and promotion of crime prevention | ||
| programs; more than 37 million people in 15,000 communities across | ||
| the United States and Canada now participate in the event; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Commemorated through neighborhood gatherings, | ||
| cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, and other activities, the | ||
| National Night Out helps to build community cohesiveness, | ||
| strengthen relations between residents and local police, and | ||
| increase awareness of anticrime strategies, while sending a message | ||
| of solidarity to would-be criminals; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The importance of crime prevention cannot be | ||
| overstated, and by taking part in National Night Out observances, | ||
| the residents of Cockrell Hill are affirming their commitment to | ||
| making their community stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2013 | ||
| National Night Out in Cockrell Hill and extend to its participants | ||
| and sponsors sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable | ||
| event; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the city of Cockrell Hill as an expression of high | ||
| regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
