proposing a constitutional amendment abolishing school district | ||
maintenance and operations ad valorem taxes. | ||
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by | ||
adding Section 1-e-1 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 1-e-1. Notwithstanding any other law, beginning on | ||
January 1, 2016, a political subdivision of this state may not levy | ||
an ad valorem tax for the purpose of maintaining an efficient system | ||
of public free schools. | ||
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 8, 2011. | ||
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | ||
proposition: "The constitutional amendment to abolish school | ||
district maintenance and operations ad valorem taxes beginning on | ||
January 1, 2016, in order that the legislature may enact a fairer | ||
system of fully funding public education." |
