proposing a constitutional amendment clarifying that a voter must | ||
be a United States citizen. | ||
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 1(a), Article VI, Texas Constitution, is | ||
amended to read as follows: | ||
(a) The following classes of persons shall not be allowed to | ||
vote in this State: | ||
(1) persons under 18 years of age; | ||
(2) persons who have been determined mentally | ||
incompetent by a court, subject to such exceptions as the | ||
Legislature may make; [ |

(3) persons convicted of any felony, subject to such | ||
exceptions as the Legislature may make; and | ||
(4) persons who are not citizens of the United States. | ||
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
submitted to the voters at an election to be held May 4, 2024. The | ||
ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | ||
proposition: "The constitutional amendment clarifying that a voter | ||
must be a United States citizen." |
