| BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Article III, Texas Constitution, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 48-g to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 48-g. The legislature by general law may authorize | ||
| each commuter rail district to impose a property tax on property | ||
| located in the district to pay debt issued or assumed by the | ||
| district and to pay the maintenance and operating expenses of the | ||
| district. The tax may not be imposed until approved by the voters | ||
| of the district voting at an election held for that purpose. | ||
| SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
| submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 8, 2011. | ||
| The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | ||
| proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the | ||
| legislature to permit commuter rail districts to impose a property | ||
| tax on property located in the district to pay debt issued or | ||
| assumed by the district and to pay the maintenance and operating | ||
| expenses of the district." | ||
