proposing a constitutional amendment providing that federal | ||
authority to regulate the manufacture, possession, sale, or use of | ||
firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition in this state is not | ||
recognized by this state. | ||
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 23, Article I, Texas Constitution, is | ||
amended to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 23. (a) Every citizen shall have the right to keep and | ||
bear arms in the lawful defence of himself or the State; but the | ||
Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of | ||
arms, with a view to prevent crime. | ||
(b) This state does not recognize any authority purportedly | ||
held by the federal government to regulate the manufacture, | ||
possession, sale, or use of firearms, firearm accessories, and | ||
ammunition in this state. | ||
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025. | ||
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | ||
proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing that federal | ||
authority to regulate the manufacture, possession, sale, or use of | ||
firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition in this state is not | ||
recognized by this state." |
