| WHEREAS, The Midland High School football team is receiving | ||
| the Innovation in Volunteerism Award as part of the 39th annual | ||
| Governor's Volunteer Awards; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Presented in conjunction with the OneStar | ||
| Foundation, the Governor's Volunteer Awards pay tribute to the | ||
| exemplary service of individuals, groups, and organizations that | ||
| have made significant contributions to Texas communities; this | ||
| year's recipients are being honored in April during a reception | ||
| hosted by First Lady Cecilia Abbott at the Texas Governor's | ||
| Mansion; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The members of the Midland High School football team | ||
| are being recognized for generously donating their time and talents | ||
| to support numerous community service projects; their achievements | ||
| have included partnering with Keep Midland Beautiful to clean up | ||
| trash in the community, conducting the Books and Bulldogs summer | ||
| reading program with the Midland YMCA, and collecting school | ||
| supplies for donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs; and | ||
| WHEREAS, These dedicated student-athletes are guided by head | ||
| coach Thad Fortune, who has made service leadership volunteer | ||
| projects an integral part of the Bulldog football program; the | ||
| initiative encompasses both junior high and high school athletes, | ||
| and includes more than 600 students in grades 7 through 12; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The members of the Midland High School football team | ||
| have greatly contributed to their community and set an example of | ||
| good citizenship to which others may aspire, and they are indeed | ||
| deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby congratulate the Midland High School football team on | ||
| receiving the Innovation in Volunteerism Award as part of the 39th | ||
| annual Governor's Volunteer Awards and extend to all those | ||
| associated with the team sincere best wishes for the future; and, be | ||
| it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives and Senate. | ||
