||
| WHEREAS, Since its passage in 2010, the Patient Protection | ||
| and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as "Obamacare," has caused | ||
| tremendous financial burden for individuals, families, and | ||
| employers across the nation; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Obamacare has placed a mandate on millions of | ||
| Americans to purchase health insurance, whether they want it or can | ||
| afford it; the U.S. government should instead ease onerous | ||
| regulations by enabling insurance companies to sell coverage across | ||
| state lines, as long as such policies comply with state | ||
| requirements, and by allowing individuals to buy health insurance | ||
| for any other person at any age; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In addition to raising the costs of premiums, the | ||
| law has strained budgets by imposing numerous new taxes; coverage | ||
| would be made more attainable by abolishing the taxes on state | ||
| payments to Obamacare and the taxable status of employer-provided | ||
| medical insurance; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Obamacare has proven to be an inadequate and | ||
| unsustainable solution to helping Americans acquire health | ||
| insurance, and it is paramount that the federal government | ||
| dismantle the law and implement commonsense policies that will | ||
| benefit citizens and businesses alike by lowering taxes, improving | ||
| choice, and making coverage more affordable; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby urge the United States Congress to repeal in full the Patient | ||
| Protection and Affordable Care Act; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official | ||
| copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to | ||
| the president of the Senate and to the speaker of the House of | ||
| Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the | ||
| members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that | ||
| this resolution be entered in the Congressional Record as a | ||
| memorial to the Congress of the United States of America. | ||
