| WHEREAS, In March 2010, President Barack Obama signed into | ||
| law a sweeping health care bill, the Patient Protection and | ||
| Affordable Care Act; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A number of reports have since suggested that the | ||
| new federal Medicaid standards imposed by the Act will require | ||
| taxpayers to spend millions, even billions, more over the next | ||
| decade; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In addition, there are likely to be ramifications | ||
| for small employers and those who purchase private insurance; for | ||
| instance, it has yet to be determined how many people will lose | ||
| their health insurance as a result of the ACA; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby direct the comptroller of public accounts to conduct a study | ||
| to determine the costs to the state of instituting the Affordable | ||
| Care Act and a projection of the number of Texas residents who would | ||
| lose health insurance coverage as a result of the ACA; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official | ||
| copies of this resolution to the Texas comptroller of public | ||
| accounts. | ||
