| WHEREAS, In recognition of his notable contributions to area | ||
| athletics, Barry Russell was inducted into the Midland Independent | ||
| School District Hall of Legends on October 27, 2023; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Every other year, the Hall of Legends recognizes a | ||
| new class of inductees, honoring exceptional athletes, teams, and | ||
| coaches, as well as prominent supporters of the district's sports | ||
| programs; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A head coach for more than three decades, Barry | ||
| Russell enjoyed a remarkable 22-year tenure at the helm of the | ||
| Midland High School baseball team, racking up 518 wins against only | ||
| 237 losses; his teams collected 11 district titles, and during a | ||
| playoff run of 20 consecutive years, the Bulldogs won two regional | ||
| crowns, claimed the 2001 5A state championship, and returned to the | ||
| state semifinals in 2006; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Russell's accolades include Coach of the Year | ||
| awards from the Texas Sports Writers Association and the National | ||
| Federation of State High School Associations, and he is a member of | ||
| the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through his dedicated efforts, Barry Russell has | ||
| furthered the proud tradition of athletic excellence and | ||
| participation that has long been a hallmark of Midland ISD, and he | ||
| is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be | ||
| it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas, | ||
| 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Barry Russell on his | ||
| induction into the Midland ISD Hall of Legends and extend to him | ||
| sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Coach Russell as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives and Senate. | ||
