| WHEREAS, Christopher McLeod of Brazoswood High School in | ||
| Clute has been named the 2023 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year by | ||
| the Texas Association of School Administrators; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since 2011, the Texas Teacher of the Year program | ||
| has recognized and rewarded faculty members who have demonstrated | ||
| an outstanding commitment to classroom education and whose efforts | ||
| and example have inspired their students, their colleagues, and the | ||
| communities they serve; prior to receiving this distinction, | ||
| Mr. McLeod was selected as a teacher of the year at the campus, | ||
| district, and regional levels; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. McLeod teaches 10th- through 12th-grade rocket | ||
| engineering at Brazoswood High School as a part of the Brazosport | ||
| Independent School District's Career and Technical Education | ||
| program; while fostering the development of engineering skills, he | ||
| also focuses on encouraging his students to become collaborators | ||
| and problem solvers; through research, design, and fabrication, his | ||
| students learn how to build fully functioning rockets, and they | ||
| have also hosted design meetings with professionals from a number | ||
| of companies, including Blue Origin, SpaceX, NASA, Dow, and BASF; | ||
| in addition, members of his Rocketry III class recently set a record | ||
| with their Goddard Horizon I rocket at a launch in White Sands, New | ||
| Mexico, which flew more than 45,000 feet; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Throughout his 11-year career as an educator, | ||
| Mr. McLeod has taught physics, chemistry, and engineering, as well | ||
| as student council and teen leadership; he holds a bachelor's | ||
| degree in marine science from Texas A&M University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Chris McLeod exemplifies the passion, | ||
| determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our | ||
| best teachers, and he has set a standard of excellence to which all | ||
| in his profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby congratulate Christopher McLeod on his selection as the 2023 | ||
| Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year and extend to him sincere best | ||
| wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. McLeod as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives and Senate. | ||
