| WHEREAS, U.S. Navy SEAL Nathan Gage Ingram of Roanoke served | ||
| his country with uncommon valor, and his family, friends, and | ||
| fellow Americans suffered a tragic loss when this courageous Texan | ||
| went missing while conducting a mission off the coast of Somalia on | ||
| January 12, 2024, at the age of 27; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Gage Ingram was | ||
| among the members of SEAL Team 3 who were assigned to board a ship | ||
| smuggling Iranian missile components bound for Houthi militants in | ||
| Yemen; during the hazardous nighttime operation in rough seas, a | ||
| member of the unit fell from the ship; SO2 Ingram heroically jumped | ||
| into the water in an attempt to rescue his fellow SEAL, but both men | ||
| were ultimately lost at sea; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born on March 22, 1996, Gage Ingram graduated from | ||
| Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, where he played football | ||
| and basketball and served as the manager of the varsity basketball | ||
| team; as a young man, he endeared himself to others with his | ||
| kindness, selflessness, and dependability, and he was active in the | ||
| school's Young Life chapter for Christian youth; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Ingram went on to earn a degree at Texas Tech | ||
| University, and during his college years, he set his sights on | ||
| becoming a Navy SEAL; he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2019 and | ||
| completed the demanding SEAL qualification training in 2021, | ||
| joining the ranks of one of the most elite military units in the | ||
| world; over the course of his military career, he was awarded the | ||
| Navy "E" Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global | ||
| War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through his selfless commitment and immeasurable | ||
| sacrifice, Nathan Gage Ingram exemplified the highest ideals of our | ||
| nation's armed forces, and it is indeed appropriate that a special | ||
| day be set aside to honor the memory of this valiant Texan; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby designate January 12 as Nathan Gage Ingram Day; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of | ||
| Section 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in | ||
| effect until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is | ||
| finally passed by the legislature. | ||
