HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 
         WHEREAS, The Honorable Dr. Bob Glaze of Gilmer, who served
  six consecutive terms in the Texas House of Representatives, passed
  away on June 25, 2010, at the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, First elected to the legislature in 1990, Dr. Glaze
  focused on strengthening health care, advancing the cause of public
  education, and addressing the needs of the disadvantaged during his
  tenure in office; he sponsored the bill that created the Children's
  Health Insurance Program in 1999, and in that same session he helped
  to establish, and then served on, the Blue Ribbon Task Force on the
  Uninsured; a senior member of the appropriations and public health
  committees, he chaired several subcommittees of the latter and also
  served as vice chair of the redistricting committee; new members of
  the house, regardless of their party affiliation, benefited greatly
  from his generous counsel; and
         WHEREAS, "Dr. Bob," as he was widely known, was born in Tyler
  on November 20, 1927; he graduated from Tyler High School and Tyler
  Junior College, earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from Sam
  Houston State University, and received his doctor of chiropractic
  degree from Texas Chiropractic College; in addition, he pursued
  graduate studies at chiropractic colleges in California, New York,
  and Maryland, and he served for a year in the merchant marine; and
         WHEREAS, Bob Glaze married the former Wilma Jean Franks in
  Tyler in 1948, and six years later the couple moved to Gilmer; over
  the ensuing decades, Dr. Glaze played a vital role in the civic life
  of his community, serving as president of the Gilmer Independent
  School District Board of Trustees, Upshur County and Gilmer Area
  Chambers of Commerce, East Texas Yamboree Association, and Gilmer
  Rotary Club, as well as board member of the East Texas Food Bank,
  director of the First National Bank of Gilmer, and member of the
  development board of The University of Texas Health Science Center
  at Tyler; he also served as a director of the Texas Health
  Foundation and the Texas Chest Foundation, and he was a valued
  congregant of the First Baptist Church of Gilmer; and
         WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous accolades, Dr. Glaze was
  named Outstanding Public Health Legislator by the Texas Public
  Health Association in both 1992 and 1999; moreover, he was chosen as
  Citizen of the Year by the Upshur County Chamber of Commerce and as
  Chiropractor of the Year by the Texas Chiropractic Association,
  which he once led as president; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Bob Glaze exemplified the highest standards of
  public service, and his colleagues in the house of representatives
  will forever remember his integrity, his deep compassion for the
  most vulnerable members of society, and his unwavering devotion to
  his constituents and to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Dr. Bob Glaze and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife
  of 62 years, Jean Glaze; to his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Andy
  Glaze and Sandra Glaze; to his daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie
  Smith and Ken Smith and Jill McDaniel and Dr. Randy McDaniel; to his
  brother, Ben D. Glaze; to his sisters, Sue Everett, Una Marie Green,
  and Freida Melvin; to his 7 grandchildren and 10
  great-grandchildren; and to the other relatives and friends of this
  distinguished Texan; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Dr. Bob Glaze.
