| WHEREAS, Punkin Center Gin in Lamesa celebrated its 100th | ||
| anniversary in 2024, and this occasion offers a welcome opportunity | ||
| to recognize the history and accomplishments of this venerable | ||
| local enterprise; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Established on June 11, 1924, Punkin Center Gin is | ||
| considered to be the oldest gin in West Texas and the second oldest | ||
| in the state that is still in operation; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In 1999, Punkin Center Gin was purchased by Al | ||
| Crisp, who has an extensive background as a cotton ginner; it is a | ||
| family-owned and operated business, with the office and financial | ||
| records being managed by his wife, Kasha; in recent years, the gin | ||
| has been updated with numerous automations to become more | ||
| efficient, playing a role in the company's success; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For more than a century, Punkin Center Gin has | ||
| contributed to the economic prosperity of Dawson County, and it is | ||
| fitting that the anniversary of its founding be recognized; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Punkin Center Gin and | ||
| extend to Al and Kasha Crisp and their employees sincere best wishes | ||
| for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Punkin Center Gin as an expression of high regard by | ||
| the Texas Legislature. | ||
