WHEREAS, Fred Underwood is receiving a Distinguished Alumni | ||
Award from the Texas Tech Alumni Association on November 17, 2023; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Tech Alumni Association honors | ||
graduates of Texas Tech University who have made a significant | ||
impact on the lives of others through their professional | ||
achievements and community involvement; and | ||
WHEREAS, Fred Underwood earned his bachelor's degree from | ||
Texas Tech in 1971; since 1987, he has been the CEO of The Trinity | ||
Company, a cotton bale storage facility with seven locations | ||
throughout Texas; the business was originally started by his | ||
great-grandfather in 1904; a leader in his field, Mr. Underwood | ||
currently serves as chair of the Cotton Warehouse Association of | ||
America ways and means committee, and he has been involved with the | ||
National Cotton Council of America and the U.S. Department of | ||
Agriculture cotton advisory committee; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Underwood has contributed his | ||
time and talents to numerous other organizations and committees, | ||
including the Texas Aviation Advisory Committee and the Texas | ||
Transportation Commission; furthermore, he has given back to his | ||
alma mater in many ways; he has served on the boards of the Texas | ||
Tech Equestrian Center, the National Ranching Heritage Center, the | ||
Chief Executive's Roundtable, the Texas Tech Medical Foundation, | ||
the Institute of Environmental & Human Health, the Davis College of | ||
Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and the Texas Tech | ||
University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing, and he has | ||
also been a member of the Chancellor's Council, the Victory Circle | ||
of the Red Raider Club, and the SPUR Society of Texas Tech; his | ||
generous support for the university has further included endowing | ||
two professorships in the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business and the | ||
pediatric orthopedic chair at the TTUHSC School of Medicine, and he | ||
created a scholarship for students on the Texas Tech rodeo team; and | ||
WHEREAS, The accomplishments of noteworthy alumni are a | ||
source of great pride to all those associated with Texas Tech, and | ||
Fred Underwood is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas, | ||
4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Fred Underwood on being | ||
named a Distinguished Alumni by the Texas Tech Alumni Association | ||
and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Underwood as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. | ||
