A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to authorization for a school district board of trustees
  to adopt or remove term limits.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 11, Education Code, is
  amended by adding Section 11.0591 to read as follows:
         Sec. 11.0591.  TERM LIMITS.  The board of trustees of an
  independent school district by resolution may:
               (1)  limit the number of terms that trustees may serve;
  or
               (2)  remove a limit on the number of terms that trustees
  may serve.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
