| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 18, Election Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 18.062 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 18.062. INTERSTATE VOTER REGISTRATION CROSSCHECK | ||
| PROGRAM. (a) To maintain the statewide voter registration list and | ||
| to prevent duplication of registration in more than one state or | ||
| jurisdiction, the secretary of state shall cooperate with other | ||
| states and jurisdictions to develop systems to compare voters, | ||
| voter history, and voter registration lists to identify voters | ||
| whose addresses have changed. | ||
| (b) A system developed under this section must comply with | ||
| the Voting Rights Act (52 U.S.C. Section 10101 et seq.). | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
