A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to a requirement that school districts and open-enrollment
  charter schools use metal detectors on each campus.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 37, Education Code, is
  amended by adding Section 37.113 to read as follows:
         Sec. 37.113.  REQUIRED METAL DETECTORS. At each school
  building located on a campus in which students attend class or
  school-sponsored activities, a school district or open-enrollment
  charter school shall screen persons entering the building for
  weapons by installing a walk-through metal detector or using a
  handheld metal detector at each entrance to the building that is
  accessible from the outside.
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
  school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
