A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the consideration of distinction designations in the
  assignment of district and campus performance ratings under the
  public school accountability system.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 39.054, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (a-6) to read as follows:
         (a-6)  For purposes of assigning an overall performance
  rating for a district or campus under Subsection (a), the
  commissioner by rule shall adopt a method for evaluating district
  or campus performance that:
               (1)  provides for:
                     (A)  the assignment of a point value to each
  distinction designation awarded to a district or campus under
  Subchapter G; and 
                     (B)  consideration of the number of points earned
  by a district or campus under Paragraph (A); and
               (2)  ensures that the assigned weight of the total
  point value for distinction designations does not account for more
  than seven percent of the overall performance rating.
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2024-2025
  school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the
  last day of the legislative session.
