| relating to the memorial designation of a highway by the Department | ||
| of Public Safety. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, | ||
| is amended by adding Section 225.007 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 225.007. MEMORIAL DESIGNATION OF HIGHWAY BY DEPARTMENT | ||
| OF PUBLIC SAFETY. (a) The Department of Public Safety may designate | ||
| a part of the state highway system in memory of a commissioned law | ||
| enforcement officer of the Department of Public Safety who has been | ||
| killed in the line of duty. | ||
| (b) A marker designating a part of the state highway system | ||
| under Subsection (a) must: | ||
| (1) contain uniform wording prescribed by the | ||
| Department of Public Safety; and | ||
| (2) be of uniform dimensions as determined by the | ||
| department. | ||
| (c) The department shall erect a marker at each end of the | ||
| designated portion of the highway and at appropriate intermediate | ||
| sites along the highway. | ||
| (d) The department shall repair or replace each marker | ||
| required by this section and maintain the grounds for the marker. | ||
| (e) A designation under this section is in addition to any | ||
| other designation provided by this chapter. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
