| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subtitle B, Title 3, Government Code, is amended | ||
| by adding Chapter 319A to read as follows: | ||
| CHAPTER 319A. CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING | ||
| Sec. 319A.001. CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING PLAN BASED ON | ||
| TOTAL POPULATION. The legislature must enact a redistricting plan | ||
| for the election of the members of the United States House of | ||
| Representatives elected from this state based on the total | ||
| population of the state as ascertained by the most recent United | ||
| States decennial census. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the | ||
| last day of the legislative session. | ||
