A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to School Bus Safety Week in public schools.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 34, Education Code, is amended by adding
  Section 34.0022 to read as follows:
         Sec. 34.0022.  SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK. (a) To educate
  students and raise community awareness about the importance of
  school bus safety, the third full week in October is designated as
  School Bus Safety Week.
         (b)  The agency, in consultation with the Department of
  Public Safety, shall develop a school bus safety program for
  implementation in public schools.
         (c)  During the designated week, each school district shall
  provide the school bus safety program developed under Subsection
  (b) to students at every grade level. The program shall be open to
  the public and the district shall encourage parents and other
  community members to participate.
         (d)  The commissioner shall adopt rules to administer this
  section.
         SECTION 2.  Not later than September 1, 2015, the Texas
  Education Agency shall develop the school bus safety program
  required under Section 34.0022, Education Code, as added by this
  Act.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
