| relating to School Bus Safety Week in public schools. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 34, Education Code, is amended by adding | ||
| Section 34.0022 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 34.0022. SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK. (a) To educate | ||
| students and raise community awareness about the importance of | ||
| school bus safety, the third full week in October is designated as | ||
| School Bus Safety Week. | ||
| (b) The agency, in consultation with the Department of | ||
| Public Safety, shall develop a school bus safety program for | ||
| implementation in public schools. | ||
| (c) During the designated week, each school district shall | ||
| provide the school bus safety program developed under Subsection | ||
| (b) to students at every grade level. The program shall be open to | ||
| the public and the district shall encourage parents and other | ||
| community members to participate. | ||
| (d) The commissioner shall adopt rules to administer this | ||
| section. | ||
| SECTION 2. Not later than September 1, 2015, the Texas | ||
| Education Agency shall develop the school bus safety program | ||
| required under Section 34.0022, Education Code, as added by this | ||
| Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
