A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the expiration dates of concealed handgun licenses for
  certain members of the United States armed forces.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 411.183, Government Code, is amended by
  amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (e) to read as
  follows:
         (b)  A renewed license expires on the license holder's
  birthday [birthdate], five years after the date of the expiration
  of the previous license.
         (e)  If the expiration date for an original, duplicate,
  modified, or renewed license of a member of the United States armed
  forces occurs while the license holder is on active duty deployed
  outside of the United States, the license does not expire on that
  date but remains valid until the first birthday of the license
  holder occurring after the license holder's return from deployment.  
  A license holder may not receive consecutive extensions for the
  license under this subsection.  For purposes of this subsection,
  "United States armed forces" includes the reserves and national
  guard.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
