| relating to the collection of information regarding the parental | ||
| status of inmates of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 501, Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 501.0125 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 501.0125. INFORMATION ON PARENTAL STATUS OF INMATES. | ||
| (a) The department shall maintain and annually update statistical | ||
| information on the number of inmates confined in a facility | ||
| operated by or under contract with the department who are parents of | ||
| a minor child or a child receiving education services. | ||
| (b) Not later than December 31 of each year, the department | ||
| shall submit to the Texas Education Agency and Department of Family | ||
| and Protective Services a report summarizing the information | ||
| described by Subsection (a) for the preceding fiscal year. | ||
| SECTION 2. Not later than December 31, 2020, the Texas | ||
| Department of Criminal Justice shall submit to the Texas Education | ||
| Agency and Department of Family and Protective Services the first | ||
| report required by Section 501.0125, Government Code, as added by | ||
| this Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. | ||
