| relating to the authority of the State Board of Dental Examiners to | ||
| renew certain expired licenses. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 257.002(d-2), Occupations Code, is | ||
| amended to read as follows: | ||
| (d-2) The board may renew the license of a person whose | ||
| license has been expired for one year or more without requiring the | ||
| person to comply with the requirements and procedures for an | ||
| original license if: | ||
| (1) the person places the person's renewed license on | ||
| retired status and confines the person's practice solely to | ||
| voluntary charity care under Section 256.102(f); or | ||
| (2) on written request by the person whose license has | ||
| expired, the board determines that extenuating circumstances and | ||
| good cause existed for the person's failure to timely renew the | ||
| license. | ||
| SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to the | ||
| renewal of a license that expires on or after the effective date of | ||
| this Act. A license that expires before the effective date of this | ||
| Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the license | ||
| expired, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
