| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 434, Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 434.026 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 434.026. VETERANS SUICIDE PREVENTION PUBLIC AWARENESS | ||
| CAMPAIGN. (a) The Texas Veterans Commission, in collaboration | ||
| with the Health and Human Services Commission, shall develop and | ||
| implement a public awareness campaign to: | ||
| (1) increase public awareness of suicide risk factors | ||
| for veterans, including risk factors specific to women veterans; | ||
| and | ||
| (2) provide information relating to, and increase | ||
| awareness of, suicide prevention services and organizations | ||
| available to veterans, including services and organizations that | ||
| address the needs of women veterans. | ||
| (b) In implementing the campaign, the Texas Veterans | ||
| Commission may engage in online advocacy, issue public service | ||
| announcements, and distribute materials that cover the topics | ||
| described by Subsection (a). | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. | ||
