H.B. No. 5135

AN ACT
relating to the issuance of K9s4KIDs specialty license plates.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 504, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 504.6661 to read as follows:
Sec. 504.6661. K9S4KIDS LICENSE PLATES. (a) The
department shall issue K9s4KIDs specialty license plates. The
department shall design the license plates in consultation with
K9s4KIDs.
(b) After deduction of the department's administrative
costs, the remainder of the fee for issuance of the license plates
shall be deposited to the credit of the general revenue fund to be
used only by the Texas Education Agency in making grants to
nonprofit organizations for the purpose of funding the purchase of
police dogs by a public or private primary or secondary school or by
an institution of higher education or private or independent
institution of higher education.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
