| relating to a study regarding the cost of child care in this state | ||
| in comparison to family income. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. (a) The Texas Workforce Commission shall | ||
| conduct a study regarding the cost of child care in this state in | ||
| comparison to family income. The study must: | ||
| (1) examine: | ||
| (A) trends in child-care costs and projections | ||
| for future child-care costs; | ||
| (B) child-care costs compared to family income, | ||
| considering federal poverty guidelines, state median income, or | ||
| other relevant income standards; and | ||
| (C) the amount of governmental money estimated or | ||
| available to support subsidized child care over the periods | ||
| applicable to the data described in Paragraphs (A) and (B) of this | ||
| subdivision and the number of children receiving subsidized child | ||
| care; and | ||
| (2) estimate the number of families eligible to | ||
| receive subsidized child care. | ||
| (b) Not later than December 15, 2026, the Texas Workforce | ||
| Commission shall report the results of the study conducted under | ||
| Subsection (a) of this section to the governor, the lieutenant | ||
| governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, and each | ||
| legislative standing committee with jurisdiction over child-care | ||
| facilities. | ||
| (c) This Act expires September 1, 2027. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. | ||
