| for public school educational programs. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 29, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 29.9061 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 29.9061. SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING. (a) The State | ||
| Board of Education shall adopt developmentally appropriate, | ||
| evidence-based standards for social and emotional learning, | ||
| including standards regarding: | ||
| (1) the development of competency in self-management, | ||
| self-awareness, and social awareness for students; and | ||
| (2) responsible decision-making. | ||
| (b) Each school district shall provide in appropriate | ||
| educational programs in each grade level the social and emotional | ||
| learning standards adopted under Subsection (a). | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. | ||
