relating to a study on mental health screening and treatment for | ||
certain inmates confined in county and municipal jails. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. (a) The Commission on Jail Standards shall | ||
conduct a study to evaluate: | ||
(1) the effectiveness of the screening practices used | ||
to identify, diagnose, and determine treatment for inmates with | ||
mental illness confined in county and municipal jails; | ||
(2) the effectiveness of mental health treatment | ||
provided to inmates with mental illness confined in county and | ||
municipal jails; and | ||
(3) the level of coordination between local mental | ||
health authorities and county and municipal jails in identifying | ||
and diagnosing inmates with mental illness. | ||
(b) Not later than January 1, 2019, the Commission on Jail | ||
Standards shall submit a written report to the legislature on the | ||
results of the study conducted under Subsection (a) of this | ||
section. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act expires September 1, 2019. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
