| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Article 2.13, Code of Criminal Procedure is | ||
| amended by adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: | ||
| (g) If an officer has lawfully arrested or detained a | ||
| person, or has good cause to believe that a person is a witness to a | ||
| criminal offense, the officer may request that the person provide | ||
| the officer with the person's name, residence address, and date of | ||
| birth, and the person may not refuse to provide the requested | ||
| information to the officer. A person who refuses to give to an | ||
| officer information requested under this subsection commits an | ||
| offense under Section 38.02, Penal Code. Each law enforcement | ||
| agency shall adopt a written policy regarding the collection of | ||
| information under this subsection. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. | ||
