| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 28.0024 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 28.0024. FILM SCREENING REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN STUDENTS. | ||
| (a) Each school district shall require 8th grade and 11th grade | ||
| students to attend a screening of the film America: Imagine the | ||
| World Without Her. | ||
| (b) On written request from a student's parent or person | ||
| standing in parental relation to the student, the school district | ||
| shall excuse the student from attending the screening. | ||
| (c) The commissioner shall adopt rules and procedures as | ||
| necessary to administer this section, including procedures to | ||
| ensure that the film designated under this section is distributed | ||
| to school districts and exhibited to students in a manner that does | ||
| not violate copyright laws. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
