A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to tenant liability insurance.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 92, Property Code, is
amended by adding Section 92.3516 to read as follows:
Sec. 92.3516. REQUIREMENT OF TENANT LIABILITY INSURANCE. A
landlord shall require a tenant to obtain or maintain during the
lease term liability insurance in an amount not less than $100,000
for each occurrence of damage to the landlord's property caused by
the tenant as a condition of the tenant's lease with the landlord.
SECTION 2. Section 92.3516, Property Code, as added by this
Act, applies only to a lease entered into or renewed on or after the
effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
